Revision [977]

Edited on 2007-10-02 11:05:18 by AvoYager [Update mailto link and instructions to subscribe]
Additions:
This list is for folks discussing the organization and operation of the OpenNIC project.
To subscribe, send an email to discuss-subscribe at the domain of lists.opennic.glue
Deletions:
These are the mailing lists by which the OpenNIC is run. We are very much opposed to most forms of bulk email, so please rest assured that these mailing lists will never be used for any mailing unrelated the the project nor for any commercial purpose. If you ever receive an inappropriate message, by these criteria, on an OpenNIC list, please let us know.
===OpenNIC-Announce===
This list is for folks interested in receiving status reports on the OpenNIC project. To date, all I can think of that would probably come out as announcements would be the addition or retraction of a new Top-Level Domain (TLD) or the addition or loss of public name servers. Oh, and newly adopted policies and such. Something else may come up that warrants an announcement as well, but we promise not to send more than one notice a day unless there's a real emergency.
To subscribe, send an email to [[mailto:majordomo@opennic.glue majordomo@opennic.glue]] (or [[mailto:majordomo@opennic.unrated.net majordomo@opennic.unrated.net]] if you're not using OpenNIC already) containing the text "subscribe announce". You will receive an email requesting confirmation from **""majordomo@scheherazade.devnull.net""**. Don't be surprised; that's the mail list server's base name. Reply as it instructs. You will now receive announcements about the Project just as often as we can come up with things to announce.
At the moment, to participate fully, you have to be on both this list and the Forum, but that's changing as we migrate over.
This list is for folks discussing the organization and operation of the OpenNIC project. While you do not need to be an experienced DNS administrator to subscribe, you might need to become one to be able to contribute to the technical discussions (or to that aspect of the project ;-).
A project like OpenNIC, however, requires much more than technical expertise. The social and legal issues are at least as important as, and probably much more complicated than, the technical issues. This list is for those discussions as well. If traffic starts to be a problem with a single discussion list, this list will be broken into several seperate lists by topic. Until then this is the appropriate venue for anything pertaining to OpenNIC.
