Open letter to the OpenNIC membership
After years of atrophy, and months of silence on the mailling list, people awoke and arrived and started to refurbish the OpenNIC project in May 2007.
This letter provides a report on those activities, a vision of additional things to be done, and asks you, now, and again in closing, "How would you like to participate?"
====Accomplishments====
The following groups have been active, collaborating by IRC (#OpenNIC on irc.freenode.net), the Mailing List, and the new wiki.
===Auditing===
Nagios Monitoring engine has been installed and configured to monitor all opennic root DNS servers. We currently have 3 members, looking for more!
===Hostmastering DNS===
A detailed inventory of the root zone, authoritative resolvers, TLD zones and hosts listed therein, has been completed. Current ongoing observation of he operational status of these indicators has been automated and regular updates are being posted to the wiki, including clickable links to all domains in all OpenNIC sponsored TLD zones.
A second new host is now providing current updates to the root and opennic.glue zones, effectively operating as tier0/ns0 for this essential function, as a first step toward decentralizing this capacity.

====Vision====
ideas for what could be done next ... things which you might want to assist with:
~-proxy? - One hopefully in each country
~-verify the membership databse (expire members who do not verify by email response)
~-implement new email list management (mailman?) with archiving
====Closing====
How would you like to participate?
====Signatories====
